About the Role

Ahrens is a leading employer in the structural steel fabrication industry, and we're seeking a skilled Boilermaker to join our team.

As a Boilermaker, you will be responsible for fabricating and welding structural steel components, working closely with our experienced team to deliver high-quality results.

We're looking for a tradesperson with a strong aptitude in mig welding and experience in structural steel fabrication. You'll need to be able to read and interpret workshop drawings, and have a strong understanding of OH&S practices.

As a member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from construction to engineering, and develop your skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret workshop drawings to determine product or job instructions and specifications.
  • Competently and safely operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal using gas shielded metal arc to the required specifications and Australian Standard.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the fabrication trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, grinders and carbon rod gauging.
  • Label and sort manufactured plate material into product groups.
  • Mark-out, cut/drill/punch holes as required for plate material in accordance with fabrication drawings.
  • Layout, position, align and assemble components together in accordance with fabrication drawings and tolerances.
  • Measure and cut raw materials with straightedges and high accuracy.
  • Move steel in workshop with overhead crane and forklift (where licensed and authorised).
  • Transfer fabricated components between production departments in accordance with production schedules.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of work areas, equipment, tools and facilities.
  • Safely and efficiently undertake all other duties in the workshop, paint/blast bay and yard areas as instructed by Management.
Skills and Experience
  • Trade Qualification in Boilermaking / Welding and experience in a similar position.
  • Ability to read, interpret and fabricate from workshop drawings.
  • Strong aptitude in the mig weld process as well as ability to perform various types of welds procedures.
  • Previous experience in structural steel fabrication.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness with understanding of OH&S practices.
  • Organisation skills, with efficient & productive work ability.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
