About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at Nectr, a leading energy retailer. As a Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the development team in progressing various utility-scale PV, BESS, and hybrid projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Development: Collaborate with the development and engineering team to understand the specific grid connection and planning requirements for new sites.
  • Data Analysis: Develop skills at using publicly available data sources and collaborate with Nectr's project partners to identify opportunities and challenges.
  • Cost Estimation: Work with the commercial team to develop suitable CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates related to project development.
  • Grid Connection: Support the submission of connection enquiries, preliminary enquiries, and early discussions with Network Service Providers (NSPs).
  • Electrical Engineering: Develop concept electrical engineering designs (SLD and general arrangements) and understand spatial requirements for equipment and substation locations.
  • Consultant Engagement: Support the development of RFQs and facilitate the engagement of consultants to support the development process.
  • Study Preparation: Facilitate the preparation of grid connection and planning studies by consultants.
  • Negotiation: Participate in the negotiation of technical requirements with relevant NSPs, councils, and regulatory bodies, ensuring reasonable solutions to technical problems.
  • Technical Solutions: Collaborate with key Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) on developing technical solutions best suited for the respective project, considering portfolio-wide implications.
  • Risk Management: Provide input to the development team regarding key technical, commercial, or timeline risks that projects may face.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Keep abreast of new developments in the regulatory and technology environments to ensure all opportunities and future challenges are considered by the development team.
  • Process Improvement: Suggest process improvements, including technologies and platforms that can be developed in-house for a more effective process.
  • Reporting: Provide routine reporting as scheduled and ad-hoc as required.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary Qualifications: Tertiary Electrical Engineering qualifications or similar disciplines.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in solar PV and/or battery energy storage systems.
  • Grid Connection Knowledge: Familiarity with NEM grid connection requirements, including the National Electricity Rules and relevant AEMO/NSP requirements.
  • DA and Planning: Familiarity with Development Application (DA) and planning requirements.
  • Power System Modelling: Familiarity with power system modelling software, including PSSe and PSCAD.
  • CAD Skills: Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD tools.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of products, systems, and market sectors within the industry.
