Senior Legal Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our Contracts & Risk team at Geoscience Ireland. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing expert legal advice and support to our technical consultants and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Draft and Negotiate Contracts: You will be responsible for drafting and negotiating consultancy services contracts, standard form contracts/subcontracts, and other commercial agreements.
- Contract Analysis: You will analyze contracts to ensure they comply with statutory regulations, insurance obligations, and our Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Contract Review and Advice: You will independently review and provide advice on contracts and agreements, leases, and other commercial documents.
- Risk Analysis and Escalation: You will analyze potential risks involved with specific contract terms and conditions and escalate any risk concerns where required.
- Professional Development: You will participate in technical and/or professional associations and stay up-to-date with legislative changes.
- Contract Maintenance: You will review and maintain contract terms and conditions and provide input to insurance policy renewals.
- Third-Party Collaboration: You will work efficiently and effectively with third parties to ensure statutory compliance and minimize contractual risk and exposure.
- Project Delivery: You will deliver a high standard of work, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed.
- Status Reporting: You will create regular status reports regarding progress on projects.
- Training and Development: You will contribute to training programs for non-legal staff.
- Experience: A minimum of 4 years' experience in either an in-house legal team of an engineering/environmental science consultancy or within a commercial law firm.
- Education: Relevant Legal, Commerce, or Business degree.
- Skills: Experience in negotiating contracts, excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-focused, and able to work with tight timeframes to meet internal client needs.
- Computer Literacy: Excellent computer literacy and attention to detail.
- Business Judgment: Excellent business judgment and high level of professionalism.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, excellent analytical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Commercial Awareness: Willingness to explore and recommend commercially viable options and solutions to the business and to our teams you support.
