Senior Data Scientist

Fortescue is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our data science team, you will design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to optimize and improve complex renewable energy and system processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and implement machine learning models to solve complex process optimisation problems and simulations of industrial processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Identify opportunities for implementing AI/ML in our operations and implement them.
- Analyse and preprocess large datasets to extract meaningful insights and features.
- Develop and refine algorithms to improve process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor model performance and continuously improve accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct research to stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning and process engineering.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Ph.D. is a plus.
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, or a similar role.
- Strong background in process engineering, including experience with process modelling, optimisation, and control.
- Proficiency in machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc).
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
- High performance coding (e.g. C++, Go, Rust) experience is a plus.
- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
- Experience in simulation modelling highly desirable.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their machine learning services.
- Strong real-world problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to details is a must.
