Job Description

As a Senior Ecologist at GHD, you will play a key role in ensuring the sustainability of our environment and communities. We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Sydney Natural Resources & Agriculture team.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated and skilled ecologist to contribute to the delivery of biodiversity values and constraints assessments, impact and offset assessments, and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management.

You will be responsible for assisting ecology team members in the application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM), as well as biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting for high-profile major projects. You will also prepare Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements and provide advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the delivery of biodiversity values and constraints assessments, impact and offset assessments, and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management.
  • Assist ecology team members in the application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM).
  • Biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting for high-profile major projects.
  • Preparation of Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements.
  • Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways.
  • Leading the delivery of proposals and technical reports for clients.
  • Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards.
  • Maintaining relationships with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Assisting in mentoring and training of junior staff.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting.
  • Accreditation to apply the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) or working towards accreditation.
  • Demonstrated skills in the development and delivery of effective ecological assessment, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in botanical survey and vegetation management and experience in the application of the BAM.
  • Demonstrated skills in flora and fauna species identification, plant community type mapping, and threatened ecological community identification.
  • Knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to listed threatened matters, biodiversity assessment, offsetting, and management.
  • Knowledge of ecological communities across various environments in NSW.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: a team player who builds rapport with both internal & external stakeholders communicates and is able to provide technical review and guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
  • Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, or a related discipline.
Estimated Salary

$90,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
