About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to lead impactful research at the intersection of Native Title law, Indigenous rights, and socio-economic development.

As Research Lead, you will work closely with Traditional Owners and key stakeholders to translate agreements into vehicles for self-determination and lasting community benefits.

You will have the chance to make a tangible difference in furthering Indigenous interests through applied research and policy development.

The Mabo Centre's Research Lead will report to the Mabo Centre Director and be expected to support the Director in all aspects of the Centre's academic, research and policy development functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement research initiatives aligned with Traditional Owners' needs and Centre objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with Indigenous organisations, industry, and government to support research and funding.
  • Nurture a high-performing research team and oversee workforce matters.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support the Centre's research programme.
  • Provide guidance to postgraduate and PhD candidates as required.

About You

You are a passionate researcher with extensive experience in Native Title law and policy, committed to advancing Indigenous interests through applied research and stakeholder engagement.

You will also have:

  • A PhD or postgraduate degree in law, business, or related field.
  • A proven track record of high-quality academic research and policy publications.
  • Extensive experience in Native Title law and associated policy issues.
  • Strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and organisations.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the broader policy environment.
