Senior Payroll Officer Role Summary

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to lead end-to-end payroll services in a dynamic Government team.


About the Job

This role involves delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a diverse workforce. You will play a key role in leading payroll operations, supporting and mentoring team members, and working closely with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure seamless service delivery.


You will be responsible for:

  • Managing complex payroll queries and providing high-quality customer service to staff.
  • Preparing, reconciling, and distributing payroll payments and reporting on a fortnightly cycle.
  • Interpreting and applying enterprise agreements, awards, and government policies.
  • Overseeing payroll system administration, including Time & Attendance platforms.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations and audits.
  • Counseling and guiding payroll officers, promoting accuracy and compliance.

Key Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Payroll Officer or Payroll Officer role within a medium-volume environment.
  • A strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and superannuation requirements.
  • The ability to interpret enterprise agreements and apply them accurately.
  • Experience with payroll systems (Technology One or similar) and Time & Attendance systems.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent numeracy skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • A commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and professional standards.
