Job Description

As a dedicated Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Peer Worker, you will play a vital role in fostering healing and connection within your community. This position requires a strong understanding of cultural knowledge and practices to provide empathetic and culturally grounded support to individuals experiencing suicidal distress.

You will draw upon your lived experience and established community connections to deliver person-centred peer support that promotes hope, social connection, and reduces isolation. Your role will involve:

  • Direct Peer Support: Engage in one-on-one interactions with individuals at risk of suicide, using your own experiences to promote resilience and empowerment.
  • Cultural Healing & Support: Integrate cultural knowledge and practices into every interaction, acknowledging the importance of culture, identity, and connection to Country in mental wellbeing and recovery.
  • Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with local Aboriginal community members, ensuring their voices, traditions, and perspectives are respected and reflected in support processes.
  • Recovery-Oriented Practice: Support individuals using a trauma-informed approach that empowers them to take control of their healing journey, honouring their strengths, cultural identity, and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities
