Boilermakers and fabricators play a crucial role in the manufacturing industry by creating complex units and subunits through cutting, rolling, shaping, bending, positioning, aligning, fitting, and welding.

As part of this process, individuals must ensure that work pieces conform to specifications and engineering drawings using measuring equipment. They also locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, taking into account factors such as thickness, machine shrinkage, and other component specifications.

To accomplish these tasks effectively, boilermakers and fabricators need to understand engineering drawings to determine material and equipment requirements and task sequences. They move parts into position manually or with hoists or cranes, set up and operate hand and power tools, pipe fitting equipment, pneumatic tools, measuring devices, pressure gauges, and welding equipment.

One of the key responsibilities of boilermakers and fabricators is constructing boilers, pressure vessels, and tanks according to Australian Standards and/or customer requirements. They inspect individual components and assembled vessels to identify any defects, operate and maintain manual handling equipment, and ensure records are kept up-to-date while performing tasks.

In addition to their technical skills, boilermakers and fabricators should possess good communication skills with trade terminology, organisational skills with the ability to multi-task, and the capacity to handle work accurately and swiftly under tight time constraints. They should be able to work well with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will have trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Fabricator and at least 5 years' experience in the manufacturing industry. Forklift and overhead/mobile crane licenses, first aid certification, working in confined spaces and working at heights tickets are desirable. A good understanding of 2D AutoCAD and Inventor drawings is essential, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.
