About Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

We are a department dedicated to helping the community prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Our purpose is to provide fire, rescue, and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland, encompassing the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service (SES), while supporting other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

Purpose of Role

The Manager Systems role contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs, and strategies.

The team provides system management and oversight of the human capital management and disaster management platforms, including SAP SuccessFactors, Aurion, and Noggin. The team also formulates strategy and policy solutions to build and retain an inclusive, diverse, and capable workforce, working closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery of contemporary, best-practice solutions for both platforms.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead the functions of the team, fostering positive working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders on difficult and complex system issues, while overseeing the development, review, and implementation of system enhancements to support operational capability.

You will be responsible for various work, including:

• Undertaking management activities, including operational and strategic planning, workflow, performance, and quality management to ensure business processes and procedures meet organisational requirements.
• Coordinating the transition of releases, enhancements, system changes, and maintenance, including training delivery and communication updates on key initiatives for module owners and users across the organisation.
• Managing system technical documentation and Service Design, including test implementation to ensure business processes and procedures maintain currency, and system enhancements meet the solution, in line with departmental standards and policies.
• Providing high-level advice, reporting, and recommendations on business systems improvement and implementation practices, including the identification of impacts on operational requirements.
• Overseeing the performance of external support vendors to ensure that contractual agreements are being met, in line with agreed business service level agreements, and systems remain fit for purpose.
• Managing complex projects and representing the organization on various forums to promote innovation, performance improvement, and service delivery enhancements within agreed timeframes.
• Building and maintaining effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the development and ongoing improvement initiatives and deliver innovative solutions.
• Managing the function and team, fostering positive teamwork, and utilisation of human, financial, and other resources, and assisting in the ongoing development of staff through performance, planning, and review.
