About the Role

AusNet Services is seeking a highly skilled Lead Connections Planning Engineer to join our Network Strategy & Planning team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in planning and developing the electricity sub-transmission network to accommodate the rapidly growing pipeline of embedded generators, storage, and large load connections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Network Planning Activities: Develop and implement comprehensive network planning processes to assess network capabilities, identify emerging limitations and issues, and initiate actions to address them.
  • Grid Connection Expertise: Provide expert advice on grid connection processes, including GPS, R0, R1, and R2 processes, engineering studies, and network requirements associated with grid connection of embedded generators, storage, and large loads.
  • Network Investment Planning: Develop strategies and identify opportunities to maximize the utilization of our sub-transmission network, including increasing load and generation connections.
  • Compliance and Monitoring: Ongoing monitoring of 66kV generator (>1.5MW) compliance and initiation of necessary action to address non-compliances.
  • Team Leadership: As a registered professional engineer, provide mentoring and coaching to other engineers within the team.
Requirements
  • Electrical Engineering Degree: A degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or equivalent.
  • Industry Experience: Demonstrated years of experience in the energy industry, preferably with some of it in utilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: Advanced technical knowledge and robust experience in electricity network planning, including power quality, system strength, power system stability, and control.
  • Software Skills: Expertise in using electricity network analysis tools or relevant software, such as PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and/or Sincal.
  • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to find new and unique solutions.
