Job Overview:

The UNSW Australia invites applications for a Lecturer in Contemporary Defence and Strategic Studies position. This role is a great opportunity for a talented academic to contribute to the research and teaching activities of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in the field of strategic studies, contemporary military affairs/operations, and/or defence policy.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements, and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals and as a cohort.
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team.
  • Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding.

Requirements:
  • A PhD in the field of strategic studies (or a related discipline), contemporary military affairs/operations, and/or defence policy, with a focus on Australian and/or the Indo-Pacific region.
  • A proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development, and delivery of courses and programs at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
