External Affairs Specialist

About the Role
Ambulance Victoria is seeking a Specialist External Affairs to provide support for our External Affairs Department. This is a Full Time, Fixed Term position until a specified date. While WFH/Hybrid options are available, it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a presence at Doncaster in line with our hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a proactive approach to issues management in order to 'front foot' issues in the media which may otherwise escalate and cause reputational damage.
- Provide professional advice, support and guidance to stakeholders and colleagues responding to media inquiries in a timely manner and prepare holding statements/key messages/media plans accordingly.
- Lead the proactive development of, and deliver media strategies to support significant or potential reputational issues and organisational goals and priorities.
- Deliver media training and conduct briefings with key staff involved in media appearances or responding to media requests for interviews and comments while continuing to update and expand talent register.
- Proactively identify media and / or public relations risks, escalate to the Manager Media and lead in the development of appropriate risk management strategies.
About You
To be considered for this position you will possess relevant industry certification with proven subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and relevant experience. Additional requirements include:
- Proven experience in a range of communication, media liaison, marketing, public relations and events management.
- Excellent written, oral and publishing skills with a strong knowledge of social media and digital channels.
- Highly personable and confident building strong relationships at all levels to build and maintain national, state and local media contacts.
- Understanding of what makes a story newsworthy and how to generate media interest in story opportunities.
- The ability to produce high quality content under tight deadlines and a willingness to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure.
