This exciting opportunity is perfect for an experienced Boilermaker looking to join our dynamic team at Garden Island. As a key member of our marine business unit, you will apply your advanced trade skills in fabrication and welding to support complex projects across various environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain exceptional standards in manufacturing high-quality steelwork from technical drawings or samples, utilising Carbon Steel, Aluminium, and Stainless Steel.
  • Develop expertise in structural fabrication and ship repair methods, ensuring seamless execution of tasks.
  • Become proficient in all welding processes, including GMAW, GTAW, and MMAW, across both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Operate a range of workshop equipment and machinery, prioritising safety and productivity.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the success of our marine business unit.
  • Demonstrate willingness to engage in a variety of ship repair activities, including light and heavy fabrication, sheet metal, and pipe fabrication.
  • Contribute to the creation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documents and Risk Assessments, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control procedures during welding processes, upholding the highest standards of excellence.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in the shipbuilding/repair industry or other heavy engineering sectors such as mining, marine, power stations, gas lines, or bridges.
  • Appropriate trade qualifications in Boilermaking or Heavy Fabrication.
  • Familiarity with marine practices, ship layout, and technical interpretation, with a strong understanding of commercial safety standards and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Proficiency in welding processes (MMAW, GTAW, GMAW), with certification advantageous.
  • EWP license and other Workcover/Comcare certificates desirable, such as basic rigging/dogging ticket and forklift ticket.
  • Ability to interpret and work from structural drawings, with a keen eye for detail.

As this role requires Defence security clearance, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain the necessary clearance. This opportunity offers a competitive salary package, estimated at AU$90,000 - AU$110,000 per annum, based on experience and location.
