Research Associate

The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our School of Biological Sciences as a Research Fellow. This role will play a key part in a collaborative team of researchers working to identify areas that can contribute positively to conservation outcomes.
With the increasing global trend of protecting 30% of land and sea, there is a growing need to explore the use of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) to create conservation landscapes and seascapes that complement protected areas. This project aims to explore the diverse types of areas that have the potential to provide biodiversity outcomes, and the configuration of these areas relative to formal protected areas.
As part of this groundbreaking research project, you will work closely with an ARC Future Fellow, research assistant and graduate students. You will also develop and apply tools to evaluate conservation areas that support existing marine and terrestrial protected areas across diverse international contexts.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a PhD in conservation science, decision science, marine ecology, or a closely related field. You will have demonstrated analytical skills, proficiency with spatial analysis, and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Culture and Benefits
At Monash, we value difference and diversity, and welcome and celebrate everyone's contributions, lived experience and expertise. We champion an inclusive and respectful workplace culture where everyone is supported to succeed.
Together with our commitment to academic freedom, you will have access to quality research facilities, infrastructure, world-class teaching spaces, and international collaboration opportunities.
