The Department of Education WA is seeking to establish a pool of Education Support Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Kensington Secondary School holds a distinctive and vital role within the WA education system, as the only stand-alone secondary education support school dedicated exclusively to young people with disabilities. At KSS, our commitment extends beyond the classroom; dedicated to equipping our students with the essential skills necessary for a successful, fulfilling, and engaged life beyond their school years.
With a new permanent Principal, KSS is focused on ensuring that our practices are not only contemporary but also forward-thinking. We are in the process of refining our curriculum to align with the Essential For Living Curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the Essential 8 skills.
These Essential 8 skills are crucial for our students, serving as the foundation for their ability to navigate everyday challenges, build meaningful relationships, and participate fully in their communities. By embedding these skills into our curriculum, we are ensuring that our students are prepared to live as independently as possible, with the confidence and capability to pursue their aspirations.
The Role
The Department of Education WA is seeking passionate and skilled teachers who ideally:
- Have a deep understanding of how students with disabilities learn.
- Can develop comprehensive and engaging teaching and learning programs.
- Are experienced in working collaboratively with support teams (ie Education Assistants and therapists) to enhance the teaching and learning process.
This pool is open for teachers interested in fulfilling various roles, including:
- Positive Behaviour Support
- Alternatives to Employment Programs
- Tailored Work Programs
- Classroom teaching
Suitable applicants should possess strong interpersonal skills, enabling them to work effectively with staff members to deliver planned educational programs and implement whole-school approaches. Additionally, suitable applicants should be committed to personal growth and be open to peer coaching and mentoring as a means to enhance their performance and capacity to deliver effective teaching and learning programs.
