About the Role

We are seeking a recent school leaver to join our team as a 1st year apprentice in Engineering (Machining) at Australia's Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). As a 1st year apprentice, you will be trained in using precision equipment to produce a variety of metal items for a broad range of applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair machinery
  • Machining, milling, turning, and fitting
  • Manufacture parts to a high standard for use across the site
  • Read and interpret technical drawings
  • Follow and communicate information on job instructions
  • Learn mechanical machining, using hand and power tools
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Basic understanding of engineering or metal work, potentially through school
  • Excellent communication, literacy, and numeracy skills
  • Great attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work towards deadlines
  • Be a team player and cooperate with others
  • Be punctual, reliable, and presentable
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of relevant workplace health and safety requirements
  • Have long-term career goals and commitment to complete the apprenticeship
  • Successfully pass pre-employment background security checks, medical, and site inductions
What We Offer

During the duration of the apprenticeship (48 months), you will be working full-time (38 hours per week), Monday to Friday, learning all the skills of the trade within the working environment. You will attend TAFE one day per week where you will learn theory and practical areas within the trade to gain a Certificate III Engineering - Mechanical Trade and become a qualified tradesperson at the completion of your apprenticeship.
