Job Description

Vestas Australia is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Grid team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of our wind farm projects throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Grid Connection and Compliance: Work closely with our power system studies team to define wind farm generator performance standards, develop wind farm control systems, and ensure compliance with industry best practices, grid code requirements, and international and local standards.
  2. Project Coordination: Coordinate activities with our grid modelling team, functional leaders, project managers, contract managers, sales team, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of grid connection and compliance reports.
  3. Grid Monitoring and Testing: Undertake and support the commissioning and testing of wind farm grid monitoring equipment and control systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and Vestas' contractual requirements.
  4. Generator Performance Standards: Approve generator performance standards through NER Clause 5.3.4A (R0), generator registration (R1), and generator compliance testing and model validation reporting (R2) with AEMO and NSP/TSO.
  5. Test Planning and Scheduling: Prepare project-specific grid compliance test plans, noting grid requirements and plant limitations, and prepare test schedules for different grid compliance testing activities.
  6. Functional Design Specifications: Prepare site-specific functional design specifications for park-level controllers and wind turbine generators based on computer models and agreed generator performance standards.
  7. Consultancy Management: Engage and manage power systems engineering consultancies when required, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of services.
  8. Technical Presentations: Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers, stakeholders, and internal teams, ensuring clear communication of wind farm technical performance.
  9. Meetings and Reviews: Attend and provide input to various safety, design, technical, and risk meetings, workshops, and reviews, ensuring effective collaboration and decision-making.
  10. Variations and RFIs: Assess variations, requests for information (RFIs), and payment claims, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  11. Tender Specifications: Review tender specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and Vestas' contractual requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: Engineering degree in Electrical or Power Systems.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in power systems operations, grid connection applications, grid compliance testing, and power system analysis.
Competencies
  • Consultancy Management: Ability to manage consultants and designers in a construction environment.
  • Grid Connection and Compliance: Experience in reviewing grid connection and compliance reports, with a focus on wind farm Hold Point testing.
  • Generator and Power Systems Modelling: Experience with generator and power systems modelling, particularly of wind farms.
  • Simulation Tools: Experience using PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory simulation tools.
  • Negotiation: Experience in negotiation with major stakeholders, such as clients, consultants, contractors, and electricity authorities.
  • High-Pressure Environment: Experience working in a high-pressure environment, with a focus on delivering results under tight deadlines.
