First Nations Cultural Advisor

Lifestyle Solutions is seeking a dedicated First Nations Cultural Advisor to join our Child and Family Service Excellence team.

  • The role focuses on supporting, guiding, and facilitating teams in areas such as service compliance, team-based support, and local community/family engagement.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and supporting cultural planning for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and young people living in residential and out of home arrangements provided by Lifestyle Solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting staff in the development and delivery of Cultural Support Plans for children and young people in care who identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Regularly reviewing and assessing progress and outcomes of Cultural Support Plans and goals with service delivery and leadership team members
  • Providing cultural governance for planning, including endorsement of plans and supporting caseworkers to include cultural plans from Departments or third parties
  • Working with ACCOs (non-government organisations and local communities) to establish equal partnerships for collaborative working
  • Providing advice to Service Excellence Leadership teams to support decision making that addresses strategic and operational cultural readiness
  • Building the capacity of service delivery teams to implement culturally sensitive, safe, and responsive practice through advice and education provision
  • Allocating, prioritising, and performing work in accordance with relevant regulatory frameworks and organisational policies and procedures
  • Keeping team members, carers, and families updated about events, programs, and activities available within the local Aboriginal communities
Requirements
  • Knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in the context of family
  • Knowledge and/or lived experience on the issues impacting ATSI children and young people residing in statutory out of home care
  • Knowledge and/or lived experience around the social determinants of health impacting on ATSI people
  • A current Driving Licence
  • A comprehensive understanding of culturally appropriate contemporary engagement with ATSI families
  • Extensive knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal people and communities in contemporary society
  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with ATSI people
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to adapt communication styles depending on the setting
