Electrical Engineering Role Overview

Bechtel is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Brisbane, QLD. As a key member of our interdisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering medium to large EPC and EPCM projects.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical systems, components, and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues, support project stakeholders, and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project's electrical engineering aspects are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria for a project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
  • Coordinate electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
  • Provide technical assistance to other electrical personnel and interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
  • Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Mentor and assist more junior electrical team members.
  • Complete electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
  • Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
  • Provide technical inputs and evaluations in support of the procurement of electrical components, including pre-award activities and post-award support of equipment suppliers.
Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant work experience in FEED, proposal, and detailed engineering, preferably in an EPC industry for large industrial plants, power projects, utilities, oil, and gas plants.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Australian Mining and Metals industry.
  • Knowledge of electrical system studies using ETAP/DIgSilent Power factory software to produce short circuit, load flow, motor starting, and voltage drop studies.
  • Previous experience in preparation of single-line diagrams, schematics, load lists, MV and LV cable calculations, cable schedules, equipment lists, and material take-offs.
  • Experience in equipment sizing, specifications, material requisition preparation, technical bid evaluation, and vendor print reviews of various electrical equipment.
  • Ability to participate and contribute to project risk assessments and hazard studies, including HSECiD, HSECiC, HAZiD, and HAZOP's.
  • Conversant with electrical layouts, such as routing, equipment, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection, substation layouts, etc.
