About the Role

This position plays a pivotal role in harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence to enhance mining operations. As a Specialist, Data Science, you will contribute to developing and implementing practical AI solutions that address real-world problems.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and deploy machine learning and generative AI tools that drive meaningful improvements in safety outcomes, operational efficiency, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in data science, with expertise in machine learning, computer vision, and generative AI. Strong technical skills in Python and SQL are also essential, along with experience in deploying models in production environments using Docker and other deployment tools.

A key aspect of this role is effective communication – the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement AI solutions that tackle pressing challenges in mining operations, focusing on practical applications that improve safety, reduce costs, and boost productivity
  • Collaborate with business teams to ensure data science projects meet their needs and can be scaled across operations
  • Guide colleagues in data science approaches and methods, helping teams make informed decisions using data
  • Promote data-driven decision-making by sharing insights, establishing best practices, and working with different teams to demonstrate the value of data

Requirements:

  • Solid data science foundation with hands-on experience in machine learning, computer vision, and generative AI
  • Technical skills in Python and SQL, with experience in deploying models in production environments
  • Ability to create clear, actionable visualisations with Power BI or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with modern development practices, including Git version control, MLOps workflows, and pipeline tools like MLFlow or Databricks
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
