Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior mechanical engineer to lead our diagnostics team in Melbourne. As a key member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex electro-mechanical systems and contribute to meaningful projects that make a real impact in healthcare.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective designs for electro-mechanical systems, focusing on system architecture and breakthrough diagnostic products.
  • Work closely with clients to capture key requirements, constraints, and engineering criteria, then architect system designs that deliver high-quality products while meeting business, technical, and regulatory goals.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring designs are robust, compliant, and delivered on time and on budget.
  • Mentor engineers to enhance technical excellence, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure quality, manufacturability, and successful transfer of products to manufacture.
  • Drive design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), configuration management, and production-readiness across medium- and high-volume product lines.
  • Oversee build activities within staged development programs and provide cross-project guidance for consumer, industrial, diagnostic, and life sciences products.
  • E nsure compliance with quality, regulatory, and safety standards while promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
Key Requirements:
  • Accredited Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent (Master's or PhD highly regarded)
  • 8+ years' experience in product development ideally in medical diagnostic instrument and device development or similarly complex electro-mechanical products
  • Demonstrated expertise in design transfer and manufacturing establishment
  • Familiarity with working to ISO13845 or ISO 9001
  • Exceptional problem-solving, leadership, and project management capabilities
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams
