Senior Metallurgist

At Glencore, we are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgist to join our Copper Smelter team. As a key member of our Production team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to the Copper Smelter to help them meet their business goals.

The core role of the Metallurgy department is to provide technical expertise to the Copper Smelter to optimize metal recovery, operating costs, and environmental performance. As a Metallurgist, you will be responsible for developing plans to achieve key business objectives, leading a group of Metallurgists, and documenting and communicating technical improvements in the Smelter.

• Provide technical support to the Copper Smelter to optimize metal recovery, operating costs, and environmental performance.
• Develop plans to achieve key business objectives.
• Lead a group of Metallurgists in the delivery of technical support to the Copper Smelter.
• Document and communicate technical improvements in the Smelter.

• A degree in an Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in metallurgical industries (pyrometallurgy and ideally copper smelting).
• Understanding of smelting systems and processes and their inter-relationships.
• Experience in leading groups of 3-5 people.
• Ability to communicate effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Well-developed report writing skills coupled with practical experience in analysing operational performance.
• Excellent computer skills, particularly in MS Excel or similar data analysis software.
• PI AF experience and dealing with large datasets and programming would be favourable.
