Seeking Instructors:

We are in search of a lead instructor for our Software Engineering Immersive program, where students embark on a transformative journey to become proficient web developers. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in JavaScript and will be instrumental in guiding our instructional team.

This position is remote but requires candidates to have an ABN for eligibility. Please ensure you meet the ABN requirements before expressing interest.

Why Teach Software Engineering Immersive?

If you are passionate about software development and eager to influence the next generation of developers, we invite you to consider this opportunity. Our approach transcends mere skills training; we seek educators who are committed to nurturing a community of lifelong learners who pursue fulfilling careers. As an instructor, you will:

Collaborate with co-instructors to guide students through a rigorous educational experience. Enhance your leadership and mentoring skills by learning from experienced instructors and instructional coaches. Motivate and assist students in discovering their passions and fostering their ongoing learning beyond the classroom. Tailor our global curriculum to your teaching style, creating personalized lesson plans and sharing insights gained over time. Cultivate a welcoming and dynamic classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning needs and styles.

Curriculum Overview:

Our curriculum is continually adapted to reflect current technical trends and the hiring landscape. Currently, our primary focus is on JavaScript. The program begins with foundational programming and web design principles using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Approximately 25% of the course delves into Rails MVC or similar frameworks, introducing essential concepts such as databases and security. The latter part of the course emphasizes JavaScript, covering API development in Node and various front-end frameworks (Backbone, Angular, Ember, React). Additionally, we address crucial skills for junior web developers, including source control and team collaboration.

Students will engage in substantial project work, completing at least four major projects alongside smaller assignments and labs, with about 20% of class time dedicated to hands-on development.

Qualifications:

A natural problem-solver whom colleagues turn to for guidance. A strong desire to shape the skills and careers of aspiring web developers. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a software development environment. Familiarity with key Computer Science concepts, including Recursion, Sorting, and Data Structures. Proficiency in both front-end and back-end development, including: HTML and CSS Full-stack JavaScript (strong emphasis on JavaScript) At least one JS MV* framework (Angular, Backbone, or React preferred) SQL databases (preferably PostgreSQL) NoSQL (familiarity with MongoDB and Redis) Knowledge of at least one additional object-oriented language (Python preferred)

Responsibilities:

Deliver 16 hours of instruction bi-weekly throughout the program. Dedicate time each week to lesson preparation, utilizing existing curriculum resources. Collaborate with co-instructors or teaching assistants to provide timely and constructive feedback to students. Work with the GA team to address the diverse needs and learning styles of students. Guide students in developing a final project that showcases their skills to potential employers. Foster a collaborative and positive classroom atmosphere. Encourage students to persist through the challenges of acquiring new skills.

This remote position can be performed from approved General Assembly operating countries.
