About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Security Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Defence network security team, you will work closely with Security Operations Manager, Solutions Architect, and Project engineers to monitor and maintain the security footprint of our Defence network. You will use your demonstrated knowledge in vulnerability analysis, incident response, security operations, and risk management to adhere to a DevSecOps and Agile methodology.

About You

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Security Operations
    • Develop and maintain security processes and documentation (runbooks etc)
    • Enhance detection and prevention controls (Trellix/Tanium/Splunk)
    • Monitor and analyse events for indicators of compromise.
  • Vulnerability Management
    • Implement and analyse vulnerability assessments (Tenable/Tanium)
    • Prioritise vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
    • Maintain awareness of latest vulnerability feeds.
    • Collaborate on threat models and monitoring requirements.
  • Risk Management
    • Assess and manage security risks across systems and applications.
    • Develop risk mitigation strategies and communicate them to product owners.
    • Monitor risk posture and adjust controls as needed.
    • Prioritise actions based on risk and impact.
  • Incident Detection and Response
    • Analyse, monitor and configure logging to isolate security events.
    • Perform live response activities during incidents.
    • Collaborate on containment and remediation efforts.
  • Automation and Efficiency
    • Develop automation playbooks to improve operational efficiency.
    • Seek continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Maintain awareness of attacker tactics and techniques.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in security threat detection tools and techniques with a focus on Trellix, Tanium, and/or Tenable.
  • Hands-on exposure to syslog, and windows event monitoring, SIEM integration and administration (Splunk).
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft and Red Hat security controls and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of network security concepts (NAC, Juniper and Cisco firewalls)
  • Exposure to system level hardening of VMware virtualisation technologies (Aria, VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX-T) is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell or Python.
  • Ability to work well in an agile team environment and communicate effectively with technical leads & project management.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and skillsets and improve upon existing technical knowledge.
  • Ability to conduct research, as well as rapidly learn new concepts and tasks, with a view of improving technical knowledge and skills.
  • 5 to 10 years security operations experience in industry and Defence
  • CySA+, SSCP, GSEC/GCIH not required but highly desirable.
  • NV2 clearance is mandatory.
