Austin Community College is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Revenue Auditor I to join our team. As a Revenue Auditor I, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of tax returns and payments made by taxpayers.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough audits of tax returns to determine accuracy and identify any discrepancies or errors.
- Communicate with taxpayers and their representatives to resolve tax matters and provide clear explanations of tax liabilities and responsibilities.
- Review and analyze tax returns, financial statements, and other documentation to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Collect and verify data, information, and documentation from taxpayers to support audit findings.
- Update and maintain accurate records and notes in agency computer systems and audit work papers.
- Conduct meetings and conferences with taxpayers and tax professionals to discuss audit findings and provide guidance on tax compliance.
- Stay up-to-date on tax laws, policies, and regulations by attending in-house and outside seminars, training sessions, and educational opportunities.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, with 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours in pure accounting courses.
- Two years of professional-level tax experience in audit, review, or preparation of excise, corporation, or individual income tax withholding, or property and/or sales tax within a state government Revenue Department or the Internal Revenue Service.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or as a Certified Internal Auditor will substitute for the required education.
This position primarily performs duties in an office setting, with occasional travel for training and education. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with taxpayers and tax professionals in a fast-paced environment.
