About the Role

SSE is committed to becoming a leading energy company in a low-carbon world. As part of this journey, we are seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team within Cloud. The primary objectives of this role are to help teams across the organisation adopt our cloud platform, provide best practice information and support, and improve our services through monitoring & automation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take a technical leadership role within the team to drive platform adoption and reduction of support issues.
  • Identify and progress opportunities to drive continuous improvement across the team, delivery, and operational practices.
  • Ensure all architecture and Cloud infrastructure accommodates the latest security and software lifecycle patterns.
  • Support stakeholders to adopt and leverage the latest Cloud Native Application Architecture patterns, delivering scalable, resilient, and performant solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, providing regular progress updates and flagging any issues accordingly.
  • Provide support and best practice guidance for application teams on adopting our platforms.
Requirements
  • Understanding of either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure and Cloud Native Architectures is essential.
  • A Cloud Certification in either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure is desirable, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and/or Linux) is desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of operational support procedures.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle and the ability to write software scripts in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Go, Java).
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with teams across the organisation to help support SSE's cloud adoption.
