About the Role

We are seeking a talented News Writer/Editor to join our editorial team at Body+Soul, Australia's leading health and wellbeing media brand. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating high-quality editorial content across our print and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and produce timely, news-based content for our weekly print product and online platform
  • Build relationships with key industry contacts, stakeholders, experts, talent, and PRs to secure exclusives and unique/breaking news stories and interviews
  • Monitor national and international news outlets daily and pitch trending news and feature stories relevant to a mass consumer audience
  • Maintain a pipeline of strong, timely, news-based stories across our key editorial pillars, including physical and mental health, wellness, fitness, nutrition, sex, and relationships
  • Interview key talent, sources, and experts for news-based features, crafting smart, service-driven journalism with a positive, engaging, and personality-packed tone of voice
  • Pitch talent and ideas with a strong news hook for covers, profiles, and editorial content, ensuring Body+Soul helps drive and shape the national health and wellness conversation
Requirements
  • Strong experience in journalism (ideally in a national newspaper, newsroom, or digital environment) and a passion for health, wellness, news, and breaking trends
  • Exceptional news and features writing skills with three to five years' experience in a similar role
  • Innate understanding of unfolding stories, topics, and major breakthroughs that will appeal to the Body+Soul audience
  • Ability to unearth fresh, exciting, and original news stories weekly and write thought-provoking long and short-form features, plus opinion pieces when required
  • Wealth of innovative, news-led health and wellbeing ideas, with a gift for writing clever, clickable, attention-grabbing headlines and sells that engage our audience immediately
  • Extensive health, wellness, and fitness contacts (including experts, PRs, brands, advocacy groups, and talent) and the ability to regularly expand that list with new and unexpected sources, talent, and leads
  • Able to multi-task and work independently under weekly deadline pressure, and write breaking news stories on very tight turnaround when required
  • Able to file clean, accurate, high-quality copy at a quick pace
  • Positive, proactive, and ferociously organized, with a finely tuned news sense and ability to spot breakthroughs and emerging trends in health, wellness, fitness, nutrition, sex, and relationships
