
Criminal Case Advocate

A skilled Criminal Law Specialist is required to prepare and present complex cases on behalf of clients, providing expert advice on criminal law matters.
This role offers the chance to expand your experience by undertaking varied and challenging casework in a wide range of criminal law and related areas. You will have the opportunity to contribute to improvements to the legal aid and criminal justice systems.
The successful candidate will play an integral role in:
- Representing clients in all general criminal law matters, including preparing cases and personally appearing for accused persons in court.
- Providing duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's Courts and appearing on higher court call-overs and mentions.
- Offering legal information and advice to clients and members of the public.
- Collaborating with team members and other staff to provide expertise and guidance on specific areas of law.
- Delivering outcomes through self-management and with supervision and guidance from senior practitioners as required.
- Contributing to team planning and suggesting improvements to work practices.
You must have knowledge and experience independently preparing and representing clients in criminal law matters.
You are knowledgeable about the practice and procedure of relevant areas of law and adhere to ethical standards.
Effective communication skills are essential, particularly when dealing with clients with complex needs, using principles of trauma-informed practice.
