Scientist (Grade One) - Microbiology Specialist

Alfred Health's Microbiology Department is seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to join their team on a temporary full-time basis. Based at The Alfred hospital, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing microbiology testing according to documented laboratory protocols within acceptable time frames.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all routine laboratory tests without supervision (after a suitable training period).
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Be familiar with the use, care, and maintenance of laboratory equipment used for routine procedures.
- Participate in internal and external quality control programs.
- Collaborate with senior staff in method development.
- BSc or BAppSc with a major in Microbiology - note: evidence of assessment by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (or equivalent) is required for overseas qualifications.
- Experience in the performance of diagnostic Microbiology testing, including specimen set-up, culture reading, and interpretation.
- Good attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to function well in a team environment.
- Ability to organise own work to ensure time frames are met.
