As a Senior Piggery Stockperson with Global Skilled Employment Services, you will play a critical role in maintaining high standards of animal welfare and efficient operations across our multiple farm sites. Key responsibilities include:
Site ManagementYou will oversee the daily operations of the piggery, ensuring that all necessary human resources, physical resources, and safety requirements are in place. This includes managing staff, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and maintaining accurate records of data collection and recording.
In addition, you will supervise trial sheds, collect and record data in accordance with trial protocols, and select breeding stock and/or pigs for sale. Your expertise will ensure that all activities are carried out efficiently and effectively, with minimal downtime.
Animal WelfareYour primary focus will be on ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. You will conduct daily inspections of livestock to ensure they are appropriately fed, watered, and their environmental parameters are fulfilled. Additionally, you will identify compromised animals, assess and treat them accordingly, and maintain accurate records in accordance with the Company Herd Health Plan and industry Model Code of Practice.
In cases where euthanasia is necessary, you will carry this out in a humane manner, in accordance with the Model Code of Practice for Animal Welfare – Pigs 3rd edition. You will also conduct post-mortem examinations of deceased stock and report findings.
Production and ReproductionYou will participate in the mating of animals via individually supervised mating or through artificial insemination. Additionally, you will supervise the birthing process, including conducting internal assessments of females during parturition to minimize stillbirths.
Effective communication and teamwork are essential in these roles, requiring you to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared objectives. Your ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure will be crucial to your success in this position.
You will also participate in company/industry training sessions and workshops as required and perform any other duties as required by the Unit Manager.
