The Digital Archivist plays a critical role in safeguarding the digital legacy of State Library Victoria, ensuring that born-digital original manuscripts/archives and picture collections are preserved and made accessible for future generations.
This position requires a deep understanding of digital preservation principles, systems, and best practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, enhancing, and maintaining metadata for digital collections, as well as ingesting these collections into digital preservation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ingesting digital collection material to ensure preservation and long-term accessibility
- Developing and maintaining high-quality metadata to support collection preservation and discoverability
- Collaborating with the Digital Preservation Coalition to implement the Library's Digital Preservation Framework and relevant policies, tools, workflows, and processes
- Designing and delivering innovative solutions to ensure the long-term safekeeping of digital assets
About You
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Experience in digital preservation practices and library and/or archival systems applications, with a focus on business and technical requirements in a complex service delivery environment
- Knowledge of contemporary metadata and structural standards and schemas for description
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as information management, records management, information systems, or database management
- Experience developing documentation and delivering training for processes and procedures
- Understanding of archival practice, including the description and arrangement of collections
- Knowledge of copyright, donor restrictions, privacy, and permissions issues related to processing born-digital original materials
