Wind Turbine Technician Job Overview

The position of Wind Turbine Technician involves performing a range of tasks to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines.

  • Assembling, installing, testing, calibrating, modifying, and repairing wind turbines in accordance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
  • Inspecting wind turbine components to verify that equipment is not damaged or faulty, thereby preventing downtime and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Conducting regular inspections of equipment to confirm proper operation and set parameters as required.
  • Cleaning, greasing, and painting wind turbine components as needed to maintain their integrity and extend their lifespan.
  • Troubleshooting issues with wind turbines to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Preparing and submitting reports on completed tasks to document progress and achievements.
  • Undertaking site-specific construction or maintenance work as required by professional services or clients.
  • Participating in quality assurance activities as necessary to guarantee high standards of workmanship.

To be successful in this role, applicants must possess:

  • A Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology, or at least three years of relevant experience in the wind industry.
  • A current GWO Certificate (with a minimum validity period of 6 months) or be willing to obtain one.
  • A White Card.
  • Be prepared to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Requirements

Applicants must hold a Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.

Hold a current GWO Certificate (valid for at least 6 months) or be willing to obtain it.

Hold a White Card.

Pass a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing.

Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Skill Set

This role demands strong technical knowledge and hands-on skills in wind turbine assembly, installation, testing, calibration, modification, and repair. Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and practices is essential.

Familiarity with quality assurance processes and procedures is also necessary.

Candidates should be physically fit and able to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
