About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Radio Astronomy Data Analyst to join our team at Curtin University's Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA). As a key member of our research institute, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) program.

Job Description

The primary focus of this position will be on facilitating and enhancing the scientific output of Australian SKA Precursors: the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) and the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). You will work closely with science teams and local resource providers to develop scalable post-processing and data analysis strategies and automated workflows that could eventually be applied to data from the SKA telescopes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to design and implement efficient data processing pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain software tools for data analysis and visualization.
  • Contribute to the development of operational requirements and pipelines for the AusSRC network.
  • Prototype and test various aspects of the international SRC Network, including data distribution and archiving frameworks.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as astronomy, physics, computer science, or engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, such as matplotlib, NumPy, or pandas.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
