Rates Specialist

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is seeking a highly skilled Rates Officer to join our Corporate Services Team in Kununurra.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective rating and property management processes, and relevant statutory obligations are always met by the Shire.

The role will also assist in the development, implementation and achievement of the Department's Business Plan including supporting the Manager Finance and Director Corporate Services in preparing information for the annual statutory financial statements, monthly Council Reports and other management reports as required.

• Administration of properties and rates
• Development and preparation of rate models and budgets
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
• Reconciliation of rates and charges schedules for Council adoption
• Annual billing and calendar activities
• Debt recovery and customer liaison

• A relevant qualification in business or finance (Diploma level or higher)
• At least three years experience as a Rates Officer in Local Government
• A current National Police Clearance (within the last 6 months)
• Substantial experience in managing rating functions within a WA local government
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
• Proven ability to conduct rates modelling and prepare rate schedules
• Strong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A high level of accuracy, data management, and financial reconciliation ability
• Ability to prepare reports, handle audit queries, and manage competing deadlines
• Familiarity with settlement agent practices and rating exemptions
• Experience coordinating debt collection and legal escalation
