Senior Accountant Opportunity at Smartsheet

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our Accounting Team in Australia. As a key member of our team, you will provide accounting support for Smartsheet, a leading cloud-based platform for work execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries and meeting internal deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned areas.
  • Participate in the annual statutory reporting process, including financial statements and fringe benefits tax reporting.
  • Develop a deep understanding of transactional flow through various systems to monitor and ensure accurate financial results.
  • Provide analysis of variances between financial results month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter.
  • Review, assess, and make recommendations for processes leading to or impacting recognition of expenses in the appropriate period.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Help build and scale our processes in accordance with best practices.
  • Participate in continued development and evaluation of internal controls and processes.
  • Prepare accounting schedules required as support for quarterly and annual filings.
  • Create high-quality workpapers, calculations, and memos as needed.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in accounting/audit practice and/or finance functions, public accounting company experience strongly preferred.
  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of AASB/IFRS (US GAAP also preferred).
  • Knowledge of and experience with an ERP system and online accounting software preferred (NetSuite highly preferred).
  • Knowledge of GST (with experience coding invoices for GST preferred).
  • Deep understanding of financial accounting, financial statements, and ability to understand and willingness to learn technical accounting concepts and topics.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with the AU-based accounting team and remain professional and flexible under pressure.
  • Willingness to approach tasks hands-on and balance requirements of preparing deliverables.
  • Highly detail-oriented and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build complete and streamlined accounting operations.
  • Ability to analyse problems, develop/recommend solutions, and resolve issues.
