We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team at Ocean State Job Lot. As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for verifying patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and benefit verification, as well as calculating and collecting patient financial responsibility.
Key Responsibilities- Verify Patient Information: Accurately verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and benefit verification to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement.
- Calculate Patient Financial Responsibility: Calculate and communicate patient financial responsibility to ensure timely payment and minimize bad debt.
- Process Payments: Collect, process, and post patient payments, including working the prepay bucket in the practice management system.
- Manage Payment Plans: Set up and process payment plan agreements and financial assistance applications, including delinquent payment follow-up.
- File Claims: File professional claims daily, review and correct any claim rejections and edits, and resubmit rejected claims after correction.
- Manage Patient Statements: Review, print, and/or process patient statements in accordance with established timelines.
- Organize and Complete Work: Organize, process, and complete the deposit protocol daily, including data entry into the general ledger.
- Provide Excellent Customer Service: Provide excellent and professional customer service to patients, staff, managers, and clinicians at all times.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience: One year of current medical billing experience in a physician office/practice setting within the last three years preferred.
- Skills: Good mathematical skills, good typing and 10-key speed and accuracy, good verbal and written communication skills, and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office365 apps.
- Certification: Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) certification or an approved, equivalent certification preferred.
- Intermediate Proficiency: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office365 apps preferred.
- Health: STD, LTD Disability, Supplemental Life, AD&D, Flexible Spending (FSA), and employer-paid life insurance and short-term disability.
- Retirement/Investment: 457(b) Deferred Compensation, Paid Time Off, Sick leave, Bereavement leave, Jury Duty/Witness Service, Tuition Reimbursement, and hospital-paid & administered annual immunizations.
