Candidate sought for an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to contribute to applied research in power system planning, analysis, and operational support. This role will ensure continuity of critical expertise within the research program.


As a key member of our team, you will work with partners to apply advanced optimisation, simulation, and analytical techniques to real-world challenges in energy network modelling and control.


This ongoing position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact on the future of energy, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment and growing your modelling and power systems domain expertise.


  • Conducting modelling and simulation studies of current and next-generation electricity generation, transmission and distribution systems.
  • Developing approaches and techniques for solving grid challenges associated with renewable energy integration, managing battery systems or distributed energy resources.
  • Applying specialist expertise to solve complex problems within a discipline or across diverse projects.
  • Participating in project scoping and planning, contributing to research direction and advising on services provided.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor, demonstrating creativity to determine client/project needs and ability to adapt quickly to changes.

Key Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related fields, with a focus on power systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated industry experience in electrical generation/distribution/transmission system modelling, planning, optimisation or control.
  • Experience with power systems modelling tools and programming/analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills for constructive collaboration with colleagues, collaborators, and clients.
  • An enthusiasm for applied research solving current problems for commercial partners.
  • Desirable: Prior experience in modelling & programming tools such as SINCAL, PowerFactory, OpenDSS, PSCAD, Python, Matlab, R, or Julia would be desirable.

  • Location flexibility - Newcastle, NSW (preferred) or Melbourne VIC may be considered.
  • A competitive salary package - AU$114K – AU$153K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation.
  • Indefinite tenure, with full-time – part-time and flexible work arrangements available based on needs of the role and individual circumstances.
