Education Assistant

The ideal candidate will be a professional who embodies the principles of Steiner education, striving to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for children. They will demonstrate high levels of consciousness in their interactions and actions, supporting teachers in maintaining an enriching space that fosters independence and potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively with the college of teachers, principal, and administrative staff to achieve educational goals.
  • Assist and support teachers in the school day, modelling participation and promoting student inclusion.
  • Participate in developing educational adjustment plans and other adjustments for individual students based on best practice interventions for inclusion, wellbeing, and learning.
  • Facilitate small group work in the classroom or break-out rooms, exercising duty of care.
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in child observations, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of student needs.
  • Supervise children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Create a learning environment that promotes independence, curiosity, and the development of each student's potential, in line with Steiner education principles.
  • Attend relevant meetings, including planning and professional development sessions, as determined by the principal.
  • Maintain order and ensure appropriate behaviour among students in class, around the school, and during excursions or camps.
  • Promote the care and maintenance of Milkwood's learning spaces, reflecting the cultural values of the institution and supporting teaching and learning.
Qualifications:
  • To be considered for this role in Transition-Year 8 classes, applicants must possess a Certificate III in Children's Services (or be working towards this qualification), hold a valid First Aid certificate, and have an Ochre Card.
  • To be considered for this role in the Preschool, applicants must possess a Certificate III in Early Childhood Teaching (or be working towards this qualification), hold a valid First Aid certificate, and have an Ochre Card.

Candidates seeking this position should demonstrate a genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to the principles of Steiner education. Experience in primary schools or early childhood settings, combined with an understanding of Steiner childhood development, is essential. Additionally, effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and the community are highly valued.
