At Palliative Care Victoria, we are seeking an experienced registered nurse to fill the role of a Palliative Assessment and Treatment Service (PATS) Nurse Practitioner.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Palliative Care team, practicing autonomously but in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage palliative care patients using nursing knowledge and skills.

Extensions to practice include prescription of medications and at least one of the following: ordering diagnostic investigations, direct referral to other health care professionals, the ability to admit and discharge patients, and/or provision of absence from work certificates.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills, and clinical competencies for expanded practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage palliative care patients using nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Practice autonomously but in collaboration with other health professionals.
  • Prescribe medications as required.
  • Order diagnostic investigations and interpret results.
  • Refer patients to other health care professionals as necessary.
  • Admit and discharge patients as required.
Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Extensive advanced knowledge of Palliative Care.
  • Knowledge of research methods and processes, the ability to generate own research, as well as the ability to analyse and interpret existing data.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills across a broad range of health professionals.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and innovative.
  • Capacity for critical reflection.
  • Evidence of competent utilisation of extensions to advanced nursing practice according to approved Clinical Practice Guidelines in Palliative Care.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Current endorsement by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Completed a Masters of Nurse Practitioner (or a Masters granted equivalence of qualification by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency plus an approved Therapeutic Medication Management module).
