Early Career Research Fellow

CSIRO is seeking a highly motivated and talented Early Career Research Fellow to join their multidisciplinary team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of eDNA science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, collaborate with leading scientists, and develop innovative solutions for marine ecosystem conservation.

Job Description

The role involves conducting large-scale analysis of pre-existing and new eDNA metabarcoding datasets obtained in Australian coastal waters. The successful candidate will co-develop a new computational tool and/or indices for detecting early signals of marine ecosystem change, lead the analysis and publication of research outcomes in high-quality publications, and carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in a relevant discipline area, such as ecology, computational biology, or bioinformatics, and no more than 3 years of postdoctoral research experience. They will have strong proficiency in statistical modeling, including experience with species distribution models, community ecology metrics, or similar frameworks. A strong programming background in R, Python, or similar languages, along with the ability to write reproducible, well-documented code, is also essential.
