Electrical Systems Engineer

The SKA Observatory is a cutting-edge radio astronomy facility that will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe and the laws of fundamental physics. Enabled by innovative technology, it promises to have a major impact on society, in science and beyond.

In Australia, we are collaborating with a leading organisation to operate and support the construction of the low frequency telescope (SKA-Low) in remote Western Australia.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted performance of complex electrical systems across the telescope site. This includes the deployment, maintenance, operation, and upgrade of a wide array of electrical systems and apparatus.

This role will work on a FIFO (Fly-In-Fly-Out) 8-days on 6-days off working roster and will contribute to the planning and scheduling of electrical maintenance activities, using discretion to determine methods, priorities, and resource needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure electrical test equipment is properly maintained and stocked, and support effective testing procedures across a range of systems.
• Participate in after-hours on-call support and attend to system breakdowns, contributing to the testing and validation of restored functionality.
• Perform prompt fault diagnosis and repairs on electrical and electronic systems, ensuring timely resolution to maintain site operations.
• Undertake the installation, commissioning, and upgrade of industrial electrical systems and components in line with project and engineering requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• A relevant trade qualification as an Electrician and an unrestricted WA Electrical Licence.
• Practical knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, installation, and upgrading of switchboards and electrical distribution systems in compliance with Australian electrical standards.
• Proven ability to plan and perform the commissioning, maintenance, repair, and fault diagnosis of electrical systems, including effective interpretation of technical drawings and schematics.
• Demonstrated capacity to work safely and productively within a small team, showing initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
