We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Consultant, Workplace Relations to join our team at Deakin University.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing complex employee relations issues and providing expert guidance on workplace matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and promoting a positive and equitable work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice on workplace relations matters, including enterprise agreement (EA) interpretation and managing complex cases like industrial disputes.
  • Represent the University at Conciliation hearings, preparing materials and recommending approaches to support positive outcomes.
  • Advise stakeholders on workplace relations issues, offering practical, balanced guidance that considers organisational risk.
  • Contribute to enterprise bargaining efforts, preparing EA documentation for the Fair Work Commission and supporting good faith negotiations.
  • Lead or support investigations into misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and bullying, preparing reports with actionable recommendations.

Requirements:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience in workplace relations and/or employment law.
  • Extensive knowledge of workplace/industrial relations legislation and practices and ideally, at least 3 years post admissions experience.
  • Proven experience in managing complex workplace relations issues and influencing key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training and coaching on workplace relations issues, including conflict resolution and grievance management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to build and maintain productive relationships across all levels of the university and with external partners.
