Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to lead our Health Education Team.

  • This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the field of harm reduction and compassionate care.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in health education, team leadership, and community engagement. They will be responsible for mentoring and developing a diverse team of health education officers, fostering a positive work culture, and working closely with the senior leadership team to drive strategy and improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a diverse team of health education officers to deliver safe and high-quality support.
  • Fostering a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
  • Working with the senior leadership team to translate strategy into action, including planning, budgeting, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Providing frontline leadership by modelling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Delivering training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across the service.
  • Overseeing staffing within allocated resources and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and policies.
  • Leading health promotion and project initiatives, and strengthening engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
  • Contributing to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.
  • Building effective internal and external stakeholder relationships to enhance outcomes for consumers and the community.
Requirements
  • Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, budgets, WHS, and compliance in a complex service environment.
  • Experience in responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or assisting with medical emergencies, such as overdose.
  • Excellent communication, training, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.
