Key Engineering Role in Defence Projects

Downer Professional Services is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer with a Software background to play a key role in delivering complex defence projects that safeguard Australia's future.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in systems and software engineering, with skills in planning, specification and design in multiple phases of a program. They will also have expertise in DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ideally within the MS Azure environment.

The role requires strong analysis, design and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and collaboration abilities. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop high-quality engineering plans and designs, ensuring seamless integration with other engineering specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of software systems engineering for the project.
  • Develop engineering plans and designs that meet the needs of the scope of work, working closely with systems architects and engineering management.
  • Support the Engineering Manager in development of engineering work packages that meet the needs of the project scope.
  • Contribute to artefacts as part of the capability definition documentation and management plans, processes and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/computers/communications/networking or similar) or an equivalent qualification that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a professional engineer.
  • Understanding of Defence processes and structure, and of the One Defence Capability System (formerly the Capability Life Cycle).
