Factory Automation Engineering Specialist

At Blue Origin, we're working to develop reusable, low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the integration of new automated equipment into the manufacturing ecosystem at Blue Origin.
  • Modify industrial control and safety systems.
  • Debug and modify PLC and Robot programs.
  • Commission SCADA applications.
  • Provide production support for sophisticated manufacturing equipment.

Key Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience with common automation control systems (e.g., PLCs, Robots, CNC).
  • 3+ years of experience with controls and automation software development environments (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley Control Logix).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong skills for design and process simplification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with partners.
  • Understanding of world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.

Additional Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Electrical, Controls, or other relevant engineering field.
  • Familiarity with control system and equipment safety standards (e.g., IEC 61131, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, RIA 15.06).
  • Experience with writing and developing software in a high-level language (e.g., Python, C#).
  • Experience with NC programming of automated systems (e.g., G-code, TP, Karel).
  • Excellent technical writing, grammar, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with electrical verification of machines.
  • Experience in defining, implementing, and maintaining controls code from source control.
