About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to lead our estimating team in support of major project tenders.

This role plays a key part in tendering and project planning, working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to develop cost-efficient pricing strategies that align with technical requirements and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the preparation of mechanical cost estimates.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of tenders and ensure accuracy.
  • Manage performance for estimating teams, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Interpret and review complex technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate material, equipment, and service pricing.
  • Analyse and validate material, labour, and equipment costs, ensuring transparency and fairness.
  • Support tender submissions with detailed cost breakdowns and feasibility data.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior management to ensure estimates reflect all aspects of project scope.
  • Maintain and improve estimating tools and cost data libraries.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings, implementing effective solutions.

About You

  • Minimum 5-10 years' experience in mechanical estimating roles, with significant experience in gas, energy, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical construction and installation methods, including relevant Australian codes and standards.
  • Proven track record in preparing first-principles cost estimates and developing bid packages, demonstrating commercial acumen.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in planning, organising, and working to timelines and scheduling.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Able to assess and manage risk in cost planning, making informed decisions.
