
Mental Health Peer Support Specialist

The ideal candidate will have personal lived experience of suicidal crisis recovery and be able to utilize their skills to connect with guests and promote hope and recovery.
You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders and services, including ambulance and local mental health teams, to provide psychosocial support and safety planning.

Key Responsibilities:- Sit with guests in distress and discomfort, taking a collaborative approach to supporting people to identify and connect with support they need and want.
- Utilise your peer support skills, including purposeful storytelling, to connect with guests and promote hope and recovery.
- Use personal lived experience of suicidal crisis recovery to connect with guests and provide support of evidence-based strategies underpinned by recovery orientated principles.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and services like ambulance and local mental health teams.
- A qualification in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards it.
- Personal lived experience of suicidality and recovery.
- Ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with distressed people.
- Demonstrate effective listening, communication skills, empathy; and the capacity to relate to others with dignity and respect.
- Must be available for an out of hours service of later afternoons to evenings plus weekends and public holidays.
- Paying on SCHADS Level 3 plus Super.
