The State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Solicitor to join its Privacy Team. As a key member of the team, you will provide expert policy and legal advice to support the department's efforts to protect clients' privacy and facilitate the sharing of information to enhance Victorian healthcare.
Key Responsibilities- Provide authoritative advice on legal and policy issues, preparing briefings and correspondence that reflect a high level of knowledge, expertise, and risk analysis.
- Make decisions that establish precedents and drive effective liaison with barristers, court/tribunal staff, other government departments, and agencies on complex legal issues.
- Manage cross-functional delivery of departmental policies and services impacted by sensitive and complex issues.
- Effectively identify and report high-risk matters or possible system-wide improvements stemming from privacy breaches.
- Maintain a good understanding of privacy and information sharing issues impacting health service sectors, as well as Commonwealth and State legislative and policy directions.
- Provide mentoring and professional development support and advice to less experienced solicitors and paralegal staff.
- Identify service improvement opportunities and work collaboratively in the development of continuous improvement systems and processes.
- The successful candidate must hold (or be eligible to hold) a current practicing certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law.
- Experience advising in relation to the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and drafting privacy impact assessments in relation to technology-based agile project management will be highly regarded.
