About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Health Information Manager to join our Clinical Coding Service team at Austin Health.

This is a leadership opportunity that will see you working closely with our Coding Manager and other experienced Senior Health Information Managers to provide education and training to Health Information Managers and Clinical Coders.

As a Senior Health Information Manager, you will be responsible for providing high-quality coding of inpatient episodes, applying detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge, and mentoring and training junior staff.

You will also work closely with various levels of staff within Austin Health to provide accurate and up-to-date information and advice on clinical coding, DRG allocation, and associated reimbursement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality coding of inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM classification and 3M Australian Grouping and Coding Applications software
  • Applying detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge across a broad range of clinical specialties in a tertiary hospital setting
  • Mentoring and training junior Health Information Managers and Clinical Coders
  • Working closely with various levels of staff within Austin Health to provide accurate and up-to-date information and advice on clinical coding, DRG allocation, and associated reimbursement

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring with you:

  • Successful completion of a clinical coding course approved by the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) including a minimum of 5 years unsupervised coding within a tertiary public health care facility
  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Coding or Leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and deliver education and training activities to clinical coders, trainees, and other hospital staff
  • Excellent clinical coding and auditing skills using ICD-10-AM 12th edition and excellent knowledge of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs)
  • Eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia
